Irving Jaffee was born in New York City in 1906 and became a speed skater. He won two gold medals at the 1932 Winter Olympics, matching the medal count of fellow American Jack Shea, who also competed there. This marked the first occasion on which two Americans had won medals in speed skating at a Winter Olympics.
