Biography

J. Presper Eckert was an electrical engineer and computer scientist born in Philadelphia in 1919. Working with John Mauchly, he designed ENIAC, the first general-purpose electronic digital computer, and later designed UNIVAC, the first commercial computer produced in the United States. He invented the mercury delay-line memory used in UNIVAC and co-founded the Eckert–Mauchly Computer Corporation. He died in 1995.
