Jaco Pastorius was born on December 1, 1951, in Norriton Township, Pennsylvania. He worked as a jazz bassist, composer, and recording artist, leading bands and recording as a solo artist. From 1976 to 1981 he was a member of the jazz fusion group Weather Report. He collaborated with Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, and Joni Mitchell, among other artists, before his death on September 21, 1987.
