James Brady was born in Centralia, Illinois in 1940 and served as a journalist, political scientist, and politician. He held the position of assistant to the U.S. president and the 17th White House press secretary under President Ronald Reagan. On March 30, 1981, he was shot and wounded by John Hinckley Jr. during an attempt on Reagan's life. Brady died in 2014.
