James Karen was an actor born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, in 1923 who worked in Broadway, film, and television. He appeared in Poltergeist, The China Syndrome, Wall Street, The Return of the Living Dead, Invaders from Mars, and The Pursuit of Happyness. From the late 1970s to the early 1990s, Karen served as a pitchman in commercials for Pathmark, a supermarket chain based on the East Coast, a role that earned him the nickname "Mr. Pathmark." He died in 2018.
