Jerome Bruner was born in New York City in 1915 and died in 2016. A psychologist and pedagogue, he earned a bachelor's degree from Duke University in 1937 and a doctorate from Harvard University in 1941. He held positions at Harvard University, the University of Oxford, and New York University, where he served as a senior research fellow at the law school. A 2002 survey ranked him as the 28th most cited psychologist of the twentieth century.
