Biography

Jerome Kern was born in Manhattan on January 27, 1885, and worked as a composer and songwriter. He wrote more than 700 songs for over 100 stage works, including "Ol' Man River," "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes," and "The Way You Look Tonight." He collaborated with librettists and lyricists including Oscar Hammerstein II, Dorothy Fields, and Johnny Mercer. Kern died on November 11, 1945.
