American astronaut (1928–2025)
Biography
Jim Lovell was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 25, 1928. A naval aviator, test pilot, and astronaut, he served as command module pilot on Apollo 8 in 1968, orbiting the Moon alongside Frank Borman and William Anders. He commanded Apollo 13 in 1970, which experienced a critical failure during its journey but looped around the Moon and returned safely to Earth. Lovell died on August 7, 2025.
