American actor (1906-1988)
Biography
John Carradine was born in New York City in 1906 and worked as a character actor in film, television, and on stage, as well as a painter and sculptor. He was a member of Cecil B. DeMille's stock company and later John Ford's company, appearing in horror films, Westerns, and Shakespearean theater. He played Count Dracula in House of Frankenstein (1944), House of Dracula (1945), Billy the Kid Versus Dracula (1966), and Nocturna: Granddaughter of Dracula (1979), and portrayed Preacher Casy in Ford's The Grapes of Wrath. In his later career, he appeared mainly in low-budget B-movies. He died in 1988.
