Biography

John Bennett Fenn was born in New York City in 1917 and died in 2010. An analytical chemist, he shared half the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2002 with Koichi Tanaka for work in mass spectrometry, specifically for developing electrospray ionization. Early in his career he studied jet propulsion at Project SQUID and worked on molecular beams. By the end of his career he had produced more than 100 publications and one book.
