John Patrick Foley was born on November 11, 1935, in Darby, Pennsylvania. He served as a Catholic priest and bishop, and held the position of president of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications from 1984 to 2007. From 2007 to 2011, he served as Grand Master of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. He was elevated to the cardinalate in 2007 and died on December 11, 2011.
