John Spencer was born in New York City on December 20, 1946, and died on December 16, 2005. He worked as a film, television, and stage actor. He played Leo McGarry on the NBC political drama The West Wing from 1999 to 2006, and appeared as attorney Tommy Mullaney in the NBC legal drama L.A. Law from 1990 to 1994. His performance on The West Wing earned him a Primetime Emmy Award in 2002, and he received five Emmy nominations in total.
