Biography

Jonathan Netanyahu was born in New York City in 1946 and served as an Israeli military officer and paratrooper. He commanded Sayeret Matkal during the 1976 Entebbe raid, launched in response to the hijacking of a civilian flight from Israel to France by Palestinian and German militants, who diverted the aircraft to Uganda with support from Idi Amin. Netanyahu was killed in action during the operation, the only Israeli soldier to die in the crisis, though 102 of the 106 hostages were rescued.
