Joseph Wambaugh was born on January 22, 1937, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and died on February 28, 2025. He worked as a novelist, screenwriter, police officer, writer, and actor, and produced both fictional and nonfictional accounts of police work in the United States. Many of his novels were set in Los Angeles and its surrounding areas and centered on Los Angeles police officers as main characters. He received three Edgar Awards and was named a Grand Master by the Mystery Writers of America.
