Katharine Burr Blodgett was born in Schenectady, New York in 1898 and worked as a physicist and chemist. She earned a PhD in physics from the University of Cambridge in 1926, the first woman to do so. While employed at General Electric, she developed nonreflective glass. She died in 1979.
