Kenneth Arrow was born in New York City on August 23, 1921. He worked as an economist, mathematician, and political theorist, and also served as a teacher and writer. He received the John Bates Clark Medal in 1957 and the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 1972, which he shared with John Hicks. He died on February 21, 2017.
