Biography
Lawrence Ferlinghetti was born in Yonkers, New York in 1919 and died in 2021. He worked as a poet, painter, social activist, publisher, bookseller, and translator, and co-founded City Lights Booksellers & Publishers. His second poetry collection, A Coney Island of the Mind, appeared in 1958 and was translated into nine languages and sold over a million copies. San Francisco designated March 24 as Lawrence Ferlinghetti Day when he turned 100 in 2019.
