Biography

Lee Evans was born in Madera, California on February 25, 1947, and died on May 19, 2021. A sprinter, he won two gold medals at the 1968 Summer Olympics, setting world records in the 400 meters and the 4 × 400 meters relay that stood for 20 and 24 years respectively. He co-founded the Olympic Project for Human Rights and participated in an athlete's boycott and the Black Power movement.
