Biography

Lloyd Alexander was born in Philadelphia in 1924 and became an author of children's and young adult fiction. Over seven decades, he wrote 48 books, which were translated into 20 languages. His Chronicles of Prydain series, a sequence of five fantasy novels, culminated in The High King, which received the Newbery Medal in 1969. He won U.S. National Book Awards in 1971 and 1982. Alexander died in 2007.
