Biography

Marvelous Marvin Hagler was born in Newark, New Jersey on May 23, 1954, and worked as a boxer and actor. He competed professionally from 1973 to 1987, holding the undisputed middleweight championship from 1980 to 1987 with twelve successful title defenses, all but one achieved by knockout. Hagler's knockout percentage among undisputed middleweight champions reached 78 percent, and his championship reign lasted six years and seven months. In 1982, he legally changed his name to "Marvelous Marvin Hagler" after being dissatisfied that announcers had not referred to him by that nickname. He died on March 13, 2021.
