Biography
Mary Alice was born in Indianola, Mississippi, in 1941 and worked as a stage, television, and film actor. She played Lettie Bostic on the television sitcom A Different World from 1987 to 1989 and appeared as Effie Williams in the 1976 film Sparkle. She won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress for a recurring role on the series I'll Fly Away and received a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her performance in the 1987 stage production of Fences. She died in 2022.
