Biography

Maxfield Parrish was born in Philadelphia in 1870 and worked as a painter, illustrator, and designer through the first half of the twentieth century. His paintings employed distinctive saturated hues and idealized neo-classical imagery. His 1922 work Daybreak was deemed by the National Museum of American Illustration to be the most successful art print of the twentieth century. He died in 1966.
