Michael Clark Rockefeller was born in Manhattan in 1938 and worked as an anthropologist, ethnologist, explorer, and photographer. He died in 1961. He was the son of Nelson Rockefeller, who served as Governor of New York and later as U.S. Vice President, and a grandson of John D. Rockefeller Jr. He was also a great-grandson of John D. Rockefeller Sr., co-founder of Standard Oil.
