Biography
Mort Shuman was born in New York City in 1938 and worked as a singer, pianist, songwriter, and composer. He co-wrote numerous rock and roll hits during the 1960s, including "Viva Las Vegas," and wrote over 500 songs for artists such as Ben E. King, Elvis Presley, Ray Charles, Andy Williams, and Janis Joplin. Shuman also wrote and performed songs in French that became hits in France and other European countries. He produced the English-language version of Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1992 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010, both posthumously.
