American feminist sociologist and psychoanalyst
Biography
Nancy J. Chodorow was born in New York City in 1944 and died in 2025. A sociologist, psychologist, psychoanalyst, feminist, and writer, she taught at Wellesley College starting in 1973, then at the University of California, Santa Cruz from 1974 to 1986. She held posts as a Sociology and Clinical Psychology professor at the University of California, Berkeley until 2005, after which she served as Professor Emeritus. She later taught psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and Cambridge Health Alliance.
