Biography
Nichelle Nichols was born in Robbins, Illinois on December 28, 1932. She worked as an actress, singer, dancer, stage performer, and voice actor. She played Uhura in Star Trek and its film sequels. From 1977 to 2015, she volunteered to promote NASA's programs and recruit diverse astronauts, including some of the first female and ethnic minority astronauts. She died on July 30, 2022.
