Norman Mineta was a politician and U.S. Army officer born in San Jose, California in 1931. He served as a Cabinet secretary under Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. He was a member of the Democratic Party and held the highest-ranking Asian American position in the federal executive branch until Kamala Harris was elected vice president in 2020. He died on May 3, 2022.
