Biography

Oscar Levant was born in Pittsburgh in 1906 to Russian-emigrant parents. He studied composition and piano under Zygmunt Stojowski and Arnold Schoenberg, and recorded 33 albums as a pianist covering works by numerous classical composers. During the 1940s he was the highest paid concert pianist in the United States. He worked as a concert pianist, composer, conductor, actor, and radio personality until his death in 1972.
