Paul Chambers was a jazz double bassist born in Pittsburgh in 1935 and died in 1969. He worked as a recording artist and composer during the 1950s and 1960s, appearing in rhythm sections and performing bowed solos. He recorded approximately a dozen albums as a leader or co-leader and over 100 as a sideman, serving as bassist for Miles Davis's first great quintet from 1955 to 1963 and later playing with pianist Wynton Kelly between 1963 and 1968.
