Biography
Paula Fox was born in New York City in 1923 and worked as a novelist, children's writer, and translator. She won the Newbery Medal in 1974 for The Slave Dancer and received the Hans Christian Andersen Award in 1978. Fox won the National Book Award in 1983 in the Children's Fiction paperback category for A Place Apart, and was inducted into the New York State Writers Hall of Fame in 2011. She died in 2017.
