Rachel Jackson was born on June 15, 1767, in Halifax County, Virginia. She was the wife of Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United States, and lived with him at the Hermitage. She died on December 22, 1828, days after his election and before his inauguration in 1829, and therefore did not serve as first lady; her niece Emily Donelson assumed that role instead.
