Ralph Waite was born in White Plains, New York on June 22, 1928, and died on February 13, 2014. He worked as an actor, director, screenwriter, voice actor, and comedian. He played John Walton Sr. on The Waltons from 1972 to 1981 and occasionally directed episodes of the series. He later appeared as Jackson Gibbs, father of Leroy Jethro Gibbs, on NCIS, and as Seeley Booth's grandfather on Bones.
