Biography

Ransom Eli Olds was born in Geneva, Ohio in 1864 and worked as a car designer, racing automobile driver, entrepreneur, and engineer. He claimed to have built a steam car in 1887 and a gasoline-powered car in 1896. Beginning in 1901, Olds used an assembly line to build the Oldsmobile Curved Dash, which became the first mass-produced automobile. The Oldsmobile and REO brands were named after him. He died in 1950.
