Rebecca Lucile Schaeffer was born in Eugene, Oregon in 1967 and worked as a model and actress. She began her career as a teen model before transitioning to acting, and in 1986 she was cast as Patricia "Patti" Russell in the CBS comedy My Sister Sam, which ended in 1988. She appeared in films including the black comedy Scenes from the Class Struggle in Beverly Hills. She was killed in 1989 at age 21 by Robert John Bardo, a 19-year-old who had been stalking her, and her death prompted the passage of stalking prevention legislation in California.
