Red Buttons was born in Manhattan on February 5, 1919, and died on July 13, 2006. An actor and comedian, he won an Oscar, a Golden Globe Award, and a Laurel Award for playing United States Air Force crew chief Joe Kelly in Sayonara. He received nominations for a Primetime Emmy Award, a BAFTA Award, a Saturn Award, and two Photoplay Awards, and was awarded a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star in 1960.
