Biography
Richard Harrison Truly was born in Fayette, Mississippi in 1937. He served as a fighter pilot and engineer in the United States Navy, achieving the rank of vice admiral, and flew as a Space Shuttle astronaut. From 1989 to 1992 he served as the eighth administrator of NASA, becoming the first former astronaut to hold that position. He died on February 27, 2024.
