Biography
Richard Roundtree was an American actor born in New Rochelle, New York, in 1942. He played private detective John Shaft in the 1971 film Shaft and reprised the role in Shaft's Big Score! (1972), Shaft in Africa (1973), a 2000 sequel, and a 2019 sequel, as well as in a television series that ran from 1973 to 1974. He appeared in the television series Roots, Generations, and Desperate Housewives. Roundtree died in 2023.
