Robert Todd Lincoln was born in Springfield, Illinois in 1843 and died in 1926. He was a lawyer, businessman, diplomat, and politician who served as United States Secretary of War from 1881 to 1885 and as U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain from 1889 to 1893. He was the eldest son of President Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd Lincoln, and the only one of their four children to survive to adulthood.
