Rod Serling was born in Syracuse, New York on December 25, 1924, and died on June 28, 1975. A screenwriter and television producer, he created live television dramas during the 1950s and produced the anthology series The Twilight Zone. Serling engaged in political activism both through his work and outside it, and participated in shaping television industry standards. He clashed with television executives and sponsors over censorship, racism, and war, earning the designation "angry young man" of Hollywood. He received nine Primetime Emmy Award nominations and won six times.
