Biography
Roger Y. Tsien was born in New York City in 1952 and died in 2016. He worked as a biochemist, biophysicist, cell biologist, and chemist, and served as a professor of chemistry and biochemistry at the University of California, San Diego. In 2008 he received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his discovery and development of the green fluorescent protein, a contribution he made alongside organic chemist Osamu Shimomura and neurobiologist Martin Chalfie. He also worked in calcium imaging.
