Biography
Roy J. Glauber was an American theoretical physicist born in New York City in 1925. He held the position of Mallinckrodt Professor of Physics at Harvard University and served as Adjunct Professor of Optical Sciences at the University of Arizona. In 1963, he developed a model for photodetection and characterized different types of light including laser light and light from incandescent bulbs, work for which he received half of the 2005 Nobel Prize in Physics; the other half was shared by John L. Hall and Theodor W. Hänsch. He also investigated the stochastic dynamics of an Ising model in a 1963 publication. He died on December 26, 2018.
