Rufus King was a lawyer, politician, and diplomat who was born in Scarborough, Maine, on March 24, 1755, and died on April 29, 1827. He served as a delegate from Massachusetts to the Continental Congress and the Philadelphia Convention, and signed the United States Constitution in 1787. He later represented New York in the United States Senate and was the Federalist Party's presidential nominee in the 1816 election.
