Joan Ruth Bader Ginsburg was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1933 and died in 2020. An American lawyer and jurist, she served as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1993 until her death, having been nominated by President Bill Clinton to replace retiring justice Byron White. She was the first Jewish woman and the second woman to serve on the Court, after Sandra Day O'Connor. During her tenure on the Court, she authored majority opinions in several cases and later became known for passionate dissents reflecting liberal legal views.
