Biography
Ruth Chatterton was born in New York City on December 24, 1892, and worked as a stage, film, and television actress, aviator, and novelist. She achieved her greatest popularity in the early to mid-1930s, a period during which she also became known as an aviator and was among the few female pilots in the United States. From the late 1930s onward, she left film acting but maintained her stage work, took on television roles starting in the late 1940s, and became a successful novelist during the 1950s. She died on November 24, 1961.
