Biography
Sam Jaffe was born in New York City in 1891 and worked as an actor, teacher, mathematician, musician, and engineer. He received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in 1951 for his role in The Asphalt Jungle (1950), the same year he won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor for that film. His film roles included appearances in The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951), Ben-Hur (1959), Gunga Din (1939), and Lost Horizon (1937). He died in 1984.
