John Paul Larkin, known as Scatman John, was born in El Monte, California in 1942. He worked as a scat singer, jazz musician, pianist, composer, and screenwriter. In 1994 he rose to prominence by fusing scat singing and dance music. He recorded five albums between 1986 and 2001, and died in 1999.
