Seymour Benzer was born in The Bronx on October 15, 1921, and died on November 30, 2007. He worked as a physicist, molecular biologist, and behavioral geneticist, beginning his career during the molecular biology revolution of the 1950s. Benzer led a genetics research lab at Purdue University and later held the position of James G. Boswell Professor of Neuroscience, emeritus, at the California Institute of Technology.
