Sharon Jones was born in Augusta, Georgia in 1956 and worked as a singer. She led Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, a soul and funk band based in Brooklyn, New York. Jones released her first record at age 40. In 2014, she received a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Album for Give the People What They Want. She died in 2016.
