Skeeter Davis was born on December 30, 1931, in Dry Ridge, Kentucky, and died on September 19, 2004. She was a country music singer and songwriter who also recorded crossover pop music, including "The End of the World" in 1962. In the late 1940s, she performed as part of the Davis Sisters while still a teenager before eventually signing with RCA Victor. She became a solo recording artist in the late 1950s.
