Biography

Susan Atkins was born in San Gabriel, California in 1948. She was a member of Charles Manson's "Family" and was convicted for participation in eight murders committed by the group at four California locations over five weeks in summer 1969, including the Tate murders. She received a death sentence that was commuted to life imprisonment when the California Supreme Court invalidated death sentences issued before 1972. Atkins remained incarcerated until her death in 2009.
